MEMBERSHIP VOWS IN THE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH (USA)

The Constitution of the Presbyterian Church (USA) declares, "One becomes an active member of the church through faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and acceptance of His Lordship in all of life. Baptism and a public profession of faith in Jesus as Lord are visible signs of entrance into the active membership of a church. A faithful member accepts Christ’s call to be involved responsibly in the ministry of his or her church. Such involvement includes: taking part in the common life and worship of a particular church, supporting the work of the church through the giving of money, time and talents, and responding to God’s activity in the world through service to others."
New members are asked to respond to the following questions as an affirmation of their personal faith in Jesus Christ, their resolve to follow Him, and their commitment to His church:

1. Who is your Lord and Savior?
Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior.
2. Do you trust in Him?
I do.
3. Do you intend to be His disciple, to obey His word, and to show His love.
I do.
4. Will you be a faithful member of this congregation, giving of yourself in every way, and will you seek the fellowship of the church wherever you may be?
I will.
